I hope I didn't make too many errors. Your entry won't be for another (approx.) 3 posts, sorry about the waiting:
From the far corner of the room, I heard a second cry that died in mid scream. Was that…Sarah Bonds on the floor, now going through the same twisted spasms our teacher had gone through seconds before!? But those around her didn’t try to help her. They only backed away. Whatever was happening to Dr. Hinsey and all those things that attacked the school, it was spreading! It was spreading like…a disease.
Quick as lightning, Dr. Hinsey was on her feet again, as if a bolt of electricity had gone through her. She stood for a moment. Just stood, as she didn’t know what to do. But before anyone could say anything, she took off, straight at a nearby girl who stood not 8 feet from the thing that inhabited Dr. Hinsey’s body. Dr. Hinsey practically tackled the kid head first. There was a quick yelp, then the two went tumbling over the first row of desks. Down to the floor. No more sound from the kid as the teacher moaned in an unnatural, primitive victory cry. It fell back onto the student, beginning to…eat. And chew. And swallow. Devouring the student right in front of us.
The sick sounds could be heard even over the small panic that filled the room. There was more movement and shouts of fear in the dark.
Then suddenly, the door of the classroom was open. Just gaping open during the lockdown. I don’t know who opened it or who went through it first, but suddenly, students were pouring out of the room and into the hallway. Fleeing one danger and into another.
No one had a choice. Not time for a second opinion. No time because the thing that was Dr. Hinsey was now looking up from her…feast- at us. We had to get out! Run, even into the place that held more potential danger. Into the hall!
I ran. We ran. I didn’t stop once I was out there. Everyone took an immediate, panicked left out of the door, instead of going right, to the exit. I didn’t realize why until I looked back there, to the exit at the end of the hall. It was blocked off by two human-like figures. And yet, they moved towards the newly appeared crowd of kids, us, like some kind of zombies.
They were more creatures! I ran from them. Down the hall as fast as my freaking legs could pump! They were coming on to us! Breathing heavily and shrieking at us. Stumbling, running after us! Some more doors opening. All the lights were out. More people running out into the corridors, with cries from their abandoned rooms right behind them. Adult and student fled. Voices warning each other, crying, yelling, pained all around me!
All I remember from that time was the chaos. Not being able to see ahead clearly. Catching glimpses of things behind and ahead of me.
I fleetingly saw LJ on his hands and knees, right there on the tiles. I will always wish I had helped him in that moment. Even have just said bye. But I ran past him; I had to move.
Suddenly, I saw my chance and took it. I ran down a side hall that connected to another hall, parallel to the one I’d come from. Why did I? No one else went this way. There was more zombie cries. I realized this as I entered into the next hall. Too late!
Just several yards away to my left, a lone creature stood, looking at me, deep scratch marks on its grayed face. In response, I sprinted to the right like he**! No time think. Just get to the open exit that was at the end of this long passageway! Had to make it!! Growls, thumping footsteps behind me! A body or two, motionless on the floor, along the way!
Don’t stop! Don’t stop! Keep running!
Running towards the light at the end of the tunnel! Voices in panic left behind me. The one monster hot on my trail!
Out of the noise, voice a few feet away called, “Andrew! In here, quick!”
I whirled around to see a slightly short heighted, short haired girl holding a heavy janitor closet door open. It was Lily Mogli, beckoning to me from the entrance. The creature was loping towards me now, just a few yards behind me. I had no time or reason to refuse this offer.
“Hurry!” she urged. I ducked into the small, but safe place just as she closed the door. The click of a lock. Then almost immediate, loud bangs ensued from the other side of the door (obviously my pursuer). Complete blackness inside here. No light could be seen except for a very small crack on the bottom of the thick door. It was actually not a closet at all. It was a room where the big floor cleaning machine would be parked in. And it was safe, with at least one other terrified kid locked inside with me.
I took a seat next to one wall, knocking over a broomstick in the process. Like I said, no light. And it was here, in the sealed off, dark hiding spot, that I exhaled a breath of relief. Or at least a feeling close to relief.
