Just felt like splitting up this part to put on the forum:
We all felt it. Every single one of the students in there felt the sense of dread. Not the dumb dread like, “Oh crap, I left my band instrument in the locker room again!”
It was more like a sense that you never knew you could feel so scared. That little voice in your head that says, “Oh sh**, oh sh**. This is real. This is happening. Please god, don’t let whatever’s out there come in here! Oh please, oh sh**…”
And no matter how hard we all begged in our minds in that silent classroom, the terrible sounds just got louder and louder, minute by minute, and the voice in my head got louder and louder along with it! We were defenseless. We had no guns, no weapons on school property, nothing.
But on top of that, there was always coughing from people in the room with me. Not that I’d care about germs at a time like this, but the smallest noises were like bombs in the immovable air around me. If only Dr.Hinsey, Sarah Bonds, LJ, Sebastian, and several others would pipe it! We needed all the silence we could get. But they just kept hacking away. It was almost like a steady stream by the 15 minute mark. Some things had been quieting out there, but I could definitely hear the sounds of continuing disaster from afar.
Deep in that ever so slightly illuminated dungeon of a classroom, there was fear of the unknown that lurked out there. Simple as that. If there is ever a true statement in this book, it would be that one.
Was that sound closer?! What was that? Where are the police by now?!
All of the sudden, Dr. Hinsey, who had been standing among us seconds before, fell over in a series of uncontrolled wheezes of air. Dropped to her knees by the force of the blows that came from within of her.
There was movement and gasps in the darkness. Some students moved forward to help the teacher as she kept hemming up blasts of unclean air. Others, like me, only stood in silent horror at the noise this was creating. Were we heard?!
I watched…as Dr.Hinsey go from her knees to her back, on the floor, spasms racking her body as if electricity were shocking her from the inside out. Causing these awful, uncontrolled jerks. Now the room was slipping into panic.
We were all like sheep. All of us. Disorderly, scared, stupid. Some of us ran to the other side of the room to get away from the diseased teacher. Some tried and failed to keep the calm and get the others back to their original positions by the lockers. Mass hysteria taking hold.
My eyes fell back to Dr. Hinsey, writhing on the floor, as if something else were controlling her jerky movements; I don’t know how else to describe it. And now, that something was catching into her voice, causing the beginnings of a sound I’d heard only come from the halls. A loud, make-it-stop screech, partly human sounding.
As soon as the ear ripping pitch escaped the teacher’s usually human throat, all students around her began to back away from her, fast.
Dr.Hinsey’s eyes suddenly didn’t look so right. I could tell in the darkness by the way they shone a deep crimson hue. Discolored and shining through the dimness. Changing. Looking at me. I backed up to the corner between the lockers and the cold wall. Backed up and wanted to get away, hide away from those eyes that had seen me. Glowing eyes that had seen me!
Out in the corridors, I heard howls and echoes directed at the shriek that ‘Dr.Hinsey’ had made. Answers to the call ‘she’ had declared. She had become one of them!
